Katy Perry Announces New Album Release In September

Katy Perry has kicked off a new chapter in her pop career with the announcement of her sixth studio album, 143, arriving September 20 via Capitol Records.

Inspired by the symbolic number 143, representing love, Perry’s latest effort is a vibrant dance-pop celebration. “I wanted to create an album that is bold, exuberant, and full of heart,” she says.

The lead single, “Woman’s World,” is a powerful ode to female empowerment, co-written with Chloe Angelides and produced by Dr. Luke, Vaughn Oliver, Aaron Joseph, and Rocco Did It Again! Fans can pre-save or pre-order the single, which is available in various formats including signed and limited edition vinyls.

The music video, directed by Charlotte Rutherford, will premiere on MTV and Paramount+ Times Square billboards on July 11 at 4:00 PM PT.

On September 20, Perry will headline Rock in Rio in Brazil, marking her return to the festival after nearly a decade. Recently, she made waves at Paris Fashion Week, wearing a custom Noir Kei Ninomiya dress and a mini dress with “Woman’s World” lyrics on the train. She also engaged with fans via a livestream from the Eiffel Tower.

With over 115 billion streams and 70 million albums sold, Perry is among the top-selling artists globally, having surpassed 100 million certified units.

Oscar-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o is venturing into podcasting with her very own 10-part series titled, ‘Mind Your Own‘.

It celebrates the rich diversity of African cultures, featuring voices from six different African languages and music composed by 15 artists from the African diaspora. This cross-cultural production sets the stage for a series that feels deeply rooted in African experiences while reaching a global audience.

Announcing the project alongside the release of its official trailer, Nyong’o’s podcast will transport listeners to cities such as Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Toronto, and Kampala.

For Nyong’o, the project is personal. Born in Mexico, raised in Kenya, and having spent the last two decades in the U.S., she is intimately familiar with the complexities of being part of the African diaspora. This lived experience fuels her drive to authentically represent the African journey and to create a platform where these stories can be shared openly.

Mind Your Own will debut on September 19 with two episodes, available on all major podcast platforms. New episodes will drop weekly.

Tyla has made history at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, held at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11.

The Johannesburg-born sensation won the award for Best Afrobeats for her hit single “Water,” marking a milestone as the first female African artist and the first South African artist to clinch a VMA.

Tyla triumphed over strong contenders including Ayra Starr featuring Giveon, Burna Boy, Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, Tems, and Usher with Pheelz. In addition to her Best Afrobeats win, she was also nominated for Best R&B for “Water” and Best New Artist. SZA took home Best R&B for “Snooze,” and Chappell Roan won Best New Artist.

The 22-year-old artist has enjoyed a remarkable year with accolades from the Grammys, BET, Billboard, and a cover feature in Elle Magazine’s October issue.
