Black Excellence: Pharrell Williams, ASAP Rocky, Colman Domingo And Lewis Hamilton To Co-Chair 2025 Met Gala

Published

Pharrell Williams will co-chair the highly anticipated 2025 Met Gala in New York, which will explore race relations through fashion.

Joining him are rapper ASAP Rocky, actor Colman Domingo, and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, with basketball legend LeBron James as the honorary chair. Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, will oversee the event.

The exhibition, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will celebrate Black men’s fashion and the significance of Black dandyism, inspired by Monica Miller’s book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. This theme highlights how Black dandyism, originally imposed on Black men in 18th-century Europe, evolved into a powerful expression of creativity and identity within the African diaspora.

At a press conference on October 9, Pharrell, also the creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, emphasized the importance of recognizing the culture that emerged from the African diaspora. “This exhibit centered on Black dandyism feels like a full-circle moment for me. It’s truly a dream come true,” he said.

The Met Gala, traditionally held on the first Monday in May, has transformed into a global fashion spectacle under Wintour’s leadership since the 1990s. Known for its extravagant red carpet, the gala raises funds for the Costume Institute; last year’s event brought in an impressive $22 million, with tickets priced at $75,000 each. As the gala approaches, excitement builds for a celebration of Black culture, style, and meaningful dialogue.

Rihanna has her sights set on Billie Eilish for a dream collaboration, calling the young superstar “so good” and placing her at the top of her wishlist.

The “Work” singer, who has been on a music hiatus since releasing “Lift Me Up” for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022, expressed her admiration during an interview with Access Hollywood.

When asked about her ideal collaborator, Rihanna enthusiastically stated, “If I could only do a song with Billie Eilish. Mm-mm, she’s so good.”

Billie, 22, was thrilled to receive such high praise from the 36-year-old icon. Sharing the clip on her Instagram Story, she responded, “What in the absolute f*** oh my god what the f***,” reflecting the excitement many fans felt upon hearing the news.

The admiration between the two runs deep. Billie has long praised Rihanna, calling her “the hottest person to ever exist” in a 2022 Vogue interview. Rapper T.I Announces Retirement From Live Performances

T.I. has officially announced his retirement from live performances, signaling the end of an era for the influential rapper.

The 44-year-old artist, born Clifford Harris Jr., will take the stage for the last time at the 93.1 The Beat’s Jingle Ball on December 19 in Atlanta.

During an appearance on 96.1 The Beat’s Rari at 2 show, T.I. expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to conclude his performance career but made it clear that he has no desire to continue. “I appreciate y’all for offering me my last working gig because I do not need the money anymore and I will not be performing,” he stated. “I don’t want to do it anymore. I don’t want people to pay me to hop around and sweat for their entertainment.”

When asked if he would entertain future performance offers, T.I. confirmed he would respond—only to decline. He hinted at a possible return to the stage under his own terms, leaving fans with a glimmer of hope for the future.

The rapper’s decision to step back comes on the heels of a significant legal victory that has reshaped his financial landscape. T.I. and his wife, Tiny, were awarded an impressive $71 million in damages after winning a lawsuit against MGA Entertainment. The couple accused the toy company of infringing on their OMG Girlz music group’s intellectual property rights through the creation of L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls that closely resembled their brand. Following a three-week trial, jurors found that 13 of the dolls had “infringed on the trade dress and misappropriated the name, image, and likeness” of the OMG Girlz.

The upcoming Jingle Ball show, where T.I. will perform one last time, promises an exciting lineup, featuring artists such as Tinashe, Sexyy Red, T-Pain, Saweetie, Khalid, and The Kid LAROI.
