Kenyan indie filmmaker Kinyua Kamau is set to premiere his debut feature film, Nyūmba Ya Mbūri, at the NBO Film Festival.

The film will screen at Prestige Plaza on the 25th at 7:00 PM EAT, with a second showing at Unseen on the 26th at 5:00 PM. Nyūmba Ya Mbūri takes audiences on a journey through Mt. Kenya’s hidden gems, including Lake Ellis, Nithi Waterfall, and the historic Nyūmba Ya Mbūri caves, where Mau Mau freedom fighters once sought refuge.

Kamau selected the title Nyūmba Ya Mbūri (“House of the Goat”) to reflect the film’s deeper themes of mystery, history, and cultural heritage. “The title represents both the physical landmark and the hidden knowledge within,” he explains, urging audiences to explore its meaning for themselves.

The film also marks the acting debut of Stella Njeri Kaburu, mountaineer and Director of Mara Expeditions, known as “The Mountain Goat” for her expertise on Mt. Kenya. With a background in tourism, Kaburu brings authenticity to the film’s storytelling. “Many don’t know these stories, yet they connect us to the mountain’s beauty and history,” she shares.

Kamau and Kaburu aim for Nyūmba Ya Mbūri to immerse viewers in Mt. Kenya’s allure, beyond the typical political associations, showcasing its lesser-known narratives. “This piece of art lets audiences experience the mountain and Kenya’s landscapes in a new, enriching way,” says Kamau, inviting viewers to embrace the film’s storytelling and the timeless beauty of Mt. Kenya.
