Hits and misses: Final EPL games before world cup break

The premier League clubs take a break ushering in the World cup and Christmas celebrations before resuming on boxing day.

This past weekend English Premier League teams played their final League matches before breaking for the upcoming world cup in Qatar.The current champions, Manchester City opened the fixtures at home to Brentford on Saturday 12, November. The visitors went on to win the game 2-1 courtesy of a brace from their English striker, Ivan Toney. The host team goal was scored by Phil Foden.

Tottenham Hotspurs came from down twice to beat Leeds United 4-3 at home while Liverpool cruised past Southampton with a 3-1 win at Anfield.

Later on the same day, Chelsea travelled to Newcastle United in a much anticipated game that saw the hosts claim all the three points courtesy of a goal from Joe Willock. League leaders, Arsenal we’re looking to go into the World Cup break and Christmas break on top of the table with a 5point gap as they travelled to Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. This visitors won the game 2-0 courtesy of a brace by Martin Odegaard.

On sunday, Fulham played host to Manchester United at Craven Cottage. The visitors were the first to score through Christian Eriksen before Fulham equalized through a well taken goal by Daniel James. After the equalizer both teams had chances on both ends before the visitors grabbed a late winner through Alejandro Garnacho which meant that the visitors claimed all the three points.

This game brought to a close game week 16 and the top 5 teams in the EPL as they head into the break are Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United closes off at number 5.

The bottom three teams are Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers closes of at number 20.

The world cup is expected to begin on November 20, 2022 and it will run through to December 28, 2022. Some premier league players are expected to feature for their respective national teams.

Other results; AFC Bournemouth (3-0) Everton, West Ham (0-2) Leicester City, Nottingham Forest(1-0) Crystal Palace, Brighton(1-2) Aston Villa.

Speaking on the ‘Las Culturistas’ podcast, the 31-year-old pop star revealed how playing Glinda the Good Witch in the upcoming Wicked film adaptation has reignited her love for musical theatre.
