Tyla, the breakout sensation behind the chart-topping hit ‘Water,’ is setting her sights on collaboration with none other than Drake.

Fresh off a successful remix with Travis Scott, the rising star expressed her ambition to work with the acclaimed ‘Rich Flex’ rapper, asserting her determination to become “the biggest pop star” of her generation.

In an exclusive interview with Trevor Noah for Interview magazine, the Grammy-nominated South African artist, aged 21, marveled at the rapid pace of her success. Every new direct message she receives leaves her in awe, making the surreal nature of her journey apparent. Unfazed by the whirlwind, Tyla remains resolute in her ultimate goal of achieving pop superstardom, with Drake at the top of her collaboration wishlist. She declared, “I’m going to say that in every single interview until he makes it happen.”

Inspiration for Tyla comes from the success story of another international sensation, Rihanna. The Barbadian superstar’s ascent to fame from outside the United States resonated deeply with Tyla, making her believe that her own dreams were within reach. Reflecting on Rihanna’s journey, she shared, “It made me feel like my dream was achievable because, like you said, it’s not something that happens every day for us. My whole family wanted to be stars and it didn’t happen for them.”

March 1, 2024, marks a significant date for Tyla’s fans as she prepares to drop her self-titled debut album along with an accompanying EP. Promising a fresh era of pop music that seamlessly integrates the rich sounds of Africa, Tyla’s upcoming releases are anticipated to redefine the contemporary pop landscape.
