Canadian rapper Drake is a proud Nigerian descendant after the results of his father’s ancestry revealed that he was 30% Nigerian.
The hitmaker took to Instagram to share a screenshot from his father, Dennis Graham, which interestingly revealed that the rap star’s dad possessed more Nigerian roots than any other ethnicity in the world.
According to the screenshot, which has thoroughly thrilled his Nigerian fan base, Drake’s DNA is 30% Nigerian, 28% Cameroonian, Congolese and Western Bantu, 11% Ivory Coasterian and Ghanaian and 8% West and Northern European.
On Instagram, where he boasts over 138 million followers, an elated Drake wrote, “This is my Dad’s results. Does this mean I’m a Naija man finally?”
On Twitter, many fans joked that the time was ripe for Drake to finally drop the Afrobeat album he must have been terribly itching to release.
In October 2022, the Duchess of Sussex and former actress, Meghan Markle, opened up on her genetic heritage, revealing that she was 43% Nigerian.
Other notable US stars who have traced their roots to Nigeria include Lil Wayne (53%), Forest Whitaker (his father had Igbo roots) and renowned Televangelist Bishop TD Jakes also from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.
