Belgium nick unconvincing win as Japan comeback stuns Germany

Day 4 of the World Cup went down on Wednesday 23, November at the host nation Qatar. Group E and F took to the pitch to play their first games at the tournament.

Group E was first up as Germany faced Japan at Khalifa International Stadium. The former opened the scoring through their midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan from the spot kick. After the goal, both teams had chances on both ends before Ritsu Doan equalised for Japan. Japan continued to press the German defense and their efforts were rewarded with a goal late in the game through their striker, Takuma Asano. Japan won 2-1.

Another Group E match went down at Al-Thumama stadium as Spain played Costa Rica. Spain won the match comfortably by putting 7 goals past Keylor Navas, Costa Rica goalkeeper. The goals were scored by Dani Olmo, Gavi, Marco Asensio, Carlos Soler, Alvaro Morata and a brace from Ferran Torres.

Other matches played yesterday were for group F teams as Morocco and Croatia played to a goalless draw while Belgium won their game against Canada 1-0 courtesy of a goal scored by Michy Batshuayi. Alphonso Davies missed a huge goal scoring opportunity for Canada from the spot kick.
