Jamaica’s Vybz Kartel Freed From Prison At Last

Published

on

Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel and his co-accused have been released after the Jamaican Court of Appeal decided not to retry them for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The Court’s ruling was influenced by multiple factors, including the insufficient and inadequate account by the prosecution of its witnesses and trial exhibits, as well as the significant time and financial costs associated with a retrial.

The decision, announced by Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop and her colleagues Paulette Williams and David Fraser, concluded that the costs and impact on the court’s resources would be too great, especially given other pending cases. This ruling follows the UK-based Privy Council’s overturning of Kartel’s 2014 murder conviction in March 2024 due to juror misconduct.

Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, along with Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John, had served over 12 years in prison. Throughout their incarceration, they maintained their innocence in Williams’ death.

Spider-Man 4 Set To Swing Into Theaters In 2026

Published

on

Sony has confirmed that Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, will swing into theaters on July 24, 2026, with production set to kick off next year.

Holland, who has brought Peter Parker to life in six previous films, will reunite with screenwriters Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, the minds behind 2021’s blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi, will direct, marking a fresh collaboration for the beloved franchise.

Excitement for Spider-Man 4 comes as Holland also joins the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming and highly secretive project, set to debut just a week earlier. Holland revealed on Good Morning America that he accepted Nolan’s offer “sight unseen”—with no knowledge of the storyline—reflecting his trust in the acclaimed director. “When that call came, it felt like déjà vu to when I got the Spider-Man role,” he shared, calling it the “phone call of a lifetime.” The experience, he said, is “an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and incredibly excited.”

Holland’s enthusiasm for Spider-Man 4 is shared by his girlfriend and co-star Zendaya, who plays MJ in the franchise. The couple could barely contain their excitement after reading the first draft of the new film’s script, with Holland describing them “bouncing around the room” in anticipation of what lies ahead.

Fans can look forward to a thrilling 2026, with back-to-back releases from both Spider-Man 4 and Nolan’s mysterious new project, giving audiences a double feature of Holland’s talent across two very different cinematic worlds.

Black Excellence: Pharrell Williams, ASAP Rocky, Colman Domingo And Lewis Hamilton To Co-Chair 2025 Met Gala

Pharrell Williams will co-chair the highly anticipated 2025 Met Gala in New York, which will explore race relations through fashion.

Joining him are rapper ASAP Rocky, actor Colman Domingo, and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, with basketball legend LeBron James as the honorary chair. Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, will oversee the event.

The exhibition, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will celebrate Black men’s fashion and the significance of Black dandyism, inspired by Monica Miller’s book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. This theme highlights how Black dandyism, originally imposed on Black men in 18th-century Europe, evolved into a powerful expression of creativity and identity within the African diaspora.

At a press conference on October 9, Pharrell, also the creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, emphasized the importance of recognizing the culture that emerged from the African diaspora. “This exhibit centered on Black dandyism feels like a full-circle moment for me. It’s truly a dream come true,” he said.

The Met Gala, traditionally held on the first Monday in May, has transformed into a global fashion spectacle under Wintour’s leadership since the 1990s. Known for its extravagant red carpet, the gala raises funds for the Costume Institute; last year’s event brought in an impressive $22 million, with tickets priced at $75,000 each. As the gala approaches, excitement builds for a celebration of Black culture, style, and meaningful dialogue.
