The eagerly anticipated 2021/22 English Premier League season kicked off on the 13th of August, as newly-promoted Brentford welcomed Arsenal to the Brentford Community Stadium, for the new season.

The match was cagey as both teams seemed to be aiming for goals, but Brentford was more clinical on goal, scoring two goals, one in each half. The match ended in celebrations from the Brentford fans as ‘the gunners’ pondered on their disappointing results

Both Chelsea and Liverpool registered 3-nil wins against Crystal Palace and Norwich respectively in their season’s opening matches.

Sunday afternoon began at St. James’ Park in a six-goal thriller in which West Ham United won 4-2 against Newcastle United. The feature match however was between Tottenham Hotspurs and champions Manchester City.

It was an end-to-game with both teams trying to out-muscle the other. However, Tottenham was the better team as Son scored a curler that went past City’s defence and the goalkeeper. That was Tottenham’s winning goal, as the champions failed to break their opponent’s defense.
