‘I will sue you’, Ndovu Kuu tells Dexta, an upcoming artist

In recent days, we have seen artists and producers come out and claim Copyright infringements on their content. Such include Mejja and Magix Enga. It has seen a number of songs being pulled out of Youtube with pending court cases.

The latest song to be pulled down is the popular ndovu ni kuu song after an upcoming artist, Dexta Briyanka, claimed that the song is infringing on his rights and that it has promoted violence in Kenyatta University(KU). He also added that the song has made parents not pay fees for their children because they think there is no learning going on in KU.

The song had over 3.5million views and it was done by Krispah featuring Khaligraph Jones and Boutross Munene.

In a post on Instagram Krispah has vowed to sue the artist who caused his video to be taken down and if he files the case Dexta will have 30 days to respond.

According to Youtube’s platform terms and conditions, Krispah is likely to lose all revenue generated from the song so far. The copyright owner decides if people can reuse the contents in their original creations. They also decide where their content can be featured or shown such places include apps and websites.

What would you rather, university or TVETs?

Even with the mechanization of a good number of activities, people still need to learn skills to earn them a place in the job market. Upon this realization, the human capital is moving towards acquiring relevant competencies.

Are universities better than TVETs (Technical and Vocational Education and Training)? One would wonder.

The ministry of education science and technology is changing the curriculum to a competence based one for the gap that was realized in the previous curriculum. This curriculum will focus on the ability of learners to develop skills and apply them.

Therefore, the curriculum will ensure learners are able to solve problems through creativity and imagination. In other words, the curriculum is adopting the criteria that has been employed by TVETs since time immemorial. The criteria that caters to the learners according to their strengths and passions.

In that case, if you are faced with the dilemma of choosing between enrolling for a course at the university or joining an institution that will impart you with skills. Choose right.

You will also notice that even those that got degrees from universities are somehow looking for technical skills from TVETs. Especially, with the occurrence of the corona pandemic that saw many get back to the basics of doing things by themselves. Yet for a long time, TVETs were considered irrelevant to the bright students

A good example is that of KCB’s ‘2jiajiri’ program. The program is enrolling young people to TVETs for skill based training. The enrollment does not discriminate against degree holders. In fact it is very receptive of these candidates with the knowledge that jobs are merger. The 2jiajiri under KCB Foundation seeks to catalyze employment and wealth creation among existing ‘jua kali’ entrepreneurs and the youth.

Nevertheless, make sure you do your due diligence on these institutions before deciding on one.
