The Safari Rally is going down from Thursday, 24th June to Sunday 27th June In Naivasha.

President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed the Safari’s World Rally Champion (WRC) comeback in capital city Nairobi after the FIA World Motorsport Council approved WRC Promoter’s calendar.

Be on the look out for:

Ian Duncan- 35 years and counting that’s how long the living legend has been in the game! Having won the Safari Rally in 1994, Ian Duncan will be competing in this year’s rally and is geared up for the win!

Another legend to be on the look out for is, the 2-time Safari Rally Winner Glen Edmunds. Glen Edmunds who operates Kenya’s first purposely-built driver training has a lot of expectations from the Kenyan drivers; with the top ones mostly on the Ford Fiesta, the VW Polo & the Skoda Fabia R5s.

Look out for Asad Anwar the 22-year-old has carried out grand test drives for the car in Nairobi and also in Naivasha ahead of the Safari. He is the younger brother of Azar Anwar who he navigated for before but the position had been held by George Mwangi. George Mwangi is a second generation Rally legend, navigating Azar Anwar to the Safari Rally victory in 2006 was a dream come true.

With each Safari Rally event comes an opportunity for the competing drivers to be immersed in the warm Kenyan cultures. Therefore the Tourism Board of Kenya is prepared to make this event count for the tourism sector which was hard hit by the pandemic.

May the best driver win!

Messi set to sign a new deal with 50 percent pay cut

Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, has reached a verbal agreement on a new deal that will keep him at Camp Nou for another 5 years, it will take him to a total of 26 years at the club when it expires. He was a free agent as of July 1st 2021 after he failed to agree a new deal with Barcelona.

The announcement could yet be days away because La Liga is insisting that the club should offload some wages. This means that Barcelona have to sell some players before Messi can sign the contract in order for the club to be in line with La Liga’s financial guidelines.

Earlier in July, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner helped his country Argentina to win the Copa America title after defeating Brazil. The win ended his long wait for a first major international trophy.

Last August Messi told the club to activate a clause in his contract which would have seen him leave for free. However, Javier Tebas(La Liga president) and Josep Bartomeu(The then Barca President) blocked the move and any club interested in buying the Argentine would have to pay his €700m release clause in full.

Bartomeu went on to resign in October and Messi expressed his intentions to listen to the plans of his successor Joan Laporta before deciding his future at the club.

Messi is Barcelona’s record scorer with 672 goals and has won 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions Leagues, 6 Copa Del Reys, 3 World club titles,7 Spanish super cups and 3 European super cups.
